SHELBYVILLE — Moody’s Ratings assigned Bedford County an Aa3 issuer rating and an Aa3 general obligation unlimited tax rating. The July 2025 release covered a proposed general obligation bond issue.
Moody’s described a healthy financial position built on careful budgeting and steady fiscal management. The report pointed to strong available fund balance and liquidity relative to annual revenues as of fiscal 2024, plus a growing local economic base.
The agency also flagged moderately elevated long-term liabilities relative to revenues, but called them manageable given local growth. Ratings can change. This one reflects how Moody’s saw the county’s books at the time of the report.
For residents, Aa3 mainly matters when the county borrows. Stronger ratings usually mean lower interest costs on bonds for capital work. It is still worth watching the annual budget.
