SHELBYVILLE. City Council held its regular meeting Thursday, Oct. 8, at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Planning & Codes Building, 100 N. Cannon Blvd. All six council members were present.
Dover Street came up on first reading. The ordinance would rezone four vacant lots at 420, 422, 424, and 426 Dover Street, about 1.67 acres total, from R-2 to R-3. Owner listed is DCC Strategic Realty Partners, LLC. Planning Commission had given a favorable recommendation. Council passed first reading on a roll-call vote, all yes. Second reading would land in November if the ordinance keeps moving.
Council also approved a resolution renaming West Holland Street off the square to Vietnam Veterans Way. The vote was unanimous. During discussion, the mayor said the change is a small way to recognize local Vietnam-era veterans and that more than a thousand still live in Bedford County. He said he served in naval aviation from 1968 to 1972. Planning Commission had already backed the name change.
Earlier in the meeting, council held a public hearing on two other rezoning ordinances. Nobody spoke for or against either one. Council then approved both on roll call, all yes:
Sevier Street. About 1.2 acres from C-2 (general business) to R-4 (high density residential). Owners listed: Brian Benton and Melynda Jill Sauls. Tax Map 078I, Group B, Parcel 09.00.
Eagle Boulevard. Two parcels, about 2.19 acres and 0.54 acre, from R-2 to I-2 (general industrial). Owner listed: Cooper Steel Fabricators, Inc. Tax Map 090, Parcels 001.00 and 01.01.
The city streamed the meeting on Shelbyville Gov TV.
